Once again, the Brains at LinkedIn have hit a home run.
The emails started dropping about a week ago – “Congratulations! You have one of the top 1% (or 5, or 10) most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012”. A nanosecond later, people were emailing, tweeting and sharing their “success” with the world (made easier by the share box so conveniently provided!).
I’ll admit, it felt pretty good…until I realized that meant I’m “One of Two Million”. Hmm, suddenly I don’t feel so special!
I’m grateful to LinkedIn for the chuckles it gave me as I saw some of the #humblebragging, and a couple of agency emails attempting to parlay it into a stamp of approval on their prowess.
Last night, I was at a Business Marketing Association meeting, surrounded by fellow marketers, and it was the hot topic. Everyone wanted to know who else was in the club, and what variations there were on the message.
I’m not sure if LinkedIn realized what a gem they had created. Maybe it was just meant to be a feel-good piece, and a genuine thank you to active users. Whatever the reason, whoever came up with the idea really is a “One in a Million”. Not a bad week for LinkedIn, considering a 25% gain in stock price since Friday too!
