Remember when Marketing was based on a hunch? So long as you believed in your idea, presented it confidently, and it looked good at the end….no-one would really challenge you on whether you were right!
Then along came analytics – and Google Analytics in particular – and suddenly you were only an expert if the numbers backed you up.
Some Marketers might say that those were happier days. Others would argue that their life is easier now they can prove to the CFO that their salary & ad budget is worthwhile.
Either way, I’m look out of the window and watching the snow falling…the snow that was supposed to arrive 2 days ago…then wasn’t going to arrive at all…then would be finished by lunchtime….all according to those very confident-looking meteorologists on TV.
Maybe Google could do a public service and start providing analytics on the accuracy of our weathermen. I have a feeling the Weather Channel might be out of business pretty quickly!
